Lilly & Lizzie Find Their Family
A community cat gave birth to three kittens on the staircase of a terrace in a Pune apartment complex. As the kittens grew older, their safety became a serious concern amongst the residents — one of the kittens fell from the building and didn't survive. A rescuer trapped the mother and the two surviving kittens, placed them with a foster while the mother was spayed and the kittens grew old enough to adopt. Weeks of adoption appeals went nowhere. They were about to release the cats back into the society garden when Siya called on the last day.
A week after Lilly and Lizzie went home, Lizzie fell critically ill with FIP. The rescuer stepped up — transferred Lizzie to a 24-hour veterinary hospital where she was admitted for three days and made a full recovery. After another sixty days in foster care, Lizzie finally went home for good.
Here's Siya on life with Lilly and Lizzie:
Adoption is something people have done for a long time, but for us, it became very personal when we brought Lilly and Lizzie home. After losing our first fur baby, Opal, our home felt empty in a way we didn't fully understand. Lilly and Lizzie brought back joy, laughter, and a sense of purpose.
We're very grateful to the rescuer, who kindly let us spend time with them before they officially became ours. When Lizzie fell sick soon after adoption, her support — both emotional and financial — really helped us get through a tough time.
Even with those challenges, we would make the same choice again without hesitation. Lilly and Lizzie have filled a space in our lives we didn't know was missing. They've become such an important part of our daily routine — whether it's their little meows, the way they ask for affection, or how they curl up next to us when we rest.
Just knowing they're waiting for us at home makes everything better and gives us something to look forward to every day.
